Facts of Tank Fire at Pertamina Indramayu Refinery

The burning of oil tanks at Pertamina Balongan Refinery made the sky of Indramayu Regency red on Monday (29/3/2021) in the morning. The incident left at least 21 people injured, one of whom was an elderly person who had even turned a century old.
Here are the facts of the disaster:
1. Fire in the T-301G Tank
Pertamina Balongan refinery in Indramayu was badly burned. The point of fire occurred at tank T-301G. "An incident occurred at the Pertamina Balongan refinery which caused a fire in the T-301G tank," said PT Pertamina International Refining & Petrochemical Subholding Corporate Secretary Ifki Sukarya.
2. Happens When Heavy Rain Accompanied by Lightning
PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Subholding Refining & Petrochemical Corporate Secretary Ifki Sukarya said he was not sure what caused the fire. However, he made sure the flames appeared when there was heavy rain accompanied by lightning.
"The cause of the fire is not known with certainty, but at the time of the incident it was raining heavily accompanied by lightning. Currently, a normal shutdown is being carried out to control the flow of oil and prevent the expansion of fires," Ifki added.
3. 100 Year Old Grandmother Becomes a Victim
A number of elderly people were victims of the Pertamina RU VI Balongan oil refinery fire. Noted, including a 100 year old grandmother named Tiah, suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Apart from Tiah, there are four other elderly people including Dawin (80), Sanusi (90), Warti (80), Taminah (60). The five elderly suffered minor injuries due to the fire.
4. Three Victims Have Not Been Found
Three victims in the fire accident at Pertamina RU VI Balongan oil refinery in Indramayu Regency have not been found. The three people were suspected of having flung into the rice fields while passing Balongan Street on Monday (29/3/2021) in the early morning.
"Meanwhile (the victim) has not been found," said Head of West Java BPBD Hadi Rahmat when contacted by detik.com, Monday (29/3/2021).
5. Gasoline Smells Strong Before Explosion
Gas leaks and a strong smell were smelled before the fire broke out at the Pertamina RU VI Balongan oil refinery, Indramayu Regency, West Java.
"A gas leak and a strong odor occurred at around 23.00 WIB (yesterday), around 00.00 WIB an explosion was heard," said Deputy Manager of the West Java BPBD BPBD Pusdalops Hadi Rahma when contacted, Monday (29/3/2021).
6. A resident died when a fire broke out
One person was recorded as dead. The deceased resident named Mashadi Dulkodir (60), domiciled in Balongan Village, Balongan District.
"Data on the death toll is one person on behalf of Mashadi Dulkodir, a 60-year-old resident of Balongan Village," said Acting Head of BPBD Indramayu Regency Dodi Dwi Endrayadi to detikcom at the Pendopo Regent of Indramayu, Monday (29/3/2021).
According to Dodi, the cause of the death of the resident is strongly suspected due to Mashadi's history of heart disease. So he said that at the time of the big explosion caused by the fire at the Pertamina Balongan oil refinery, the victim's heart disease recurred.
7. The ESDM Team Sent an Investigation Team
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) sent an investigation team to dig up the cause of the fire in the T-301G tank in the Balongan refinery area, Indramayu, West Java. Reportedly, the Oil and Gas Inspector is already on site, led by the Director of Engineering and the Oil and Gas Environment, Wakhid Hasyim.
"The cause of the incident will be investigated after the fire has been resolved. Currently the Oil and Gas Inspector is at the scene to collect the necessary information," said Director General of Oil and Gas, Tutuka Ariadji in a written statement, Monday (29/3/2021).
